This Beta HCG (β- hCG) Qualitative Test is a blood test to quantitatively measure the levels of β-hCG in human blood samples, including whole blood, serum and plasma on LYOFIA® platform developed by VACURE Biotech.

Summary
β-hCG is actually human chorionic gonadotropin, a glycoprotein secreted by the placental trophoblast cells. After a woman becomes pregnant, the hCG in her body will continue to rise, and the highest concentration can be reached between the 8th and 10th weeks of pregnancy. HCG is divided into two parts, the α part and the β part. The β-HCG is unique to HCG, and the α part is common to the anterior pituitary hormone. This means that the level of β-HCG detected after pregnancy represents the level of HCG in the body.
Why Testβ- HCG?
β-hCG a sex hurmone that can be detected by the blood and urine from a mother. The Beta HCG (β- hCG) Qualitative Test qualitatively detect the β-hCG amount from human blood, which can be used in three ways in the clinical setting of pregnancy:
- To confirm the presence/absence of fetal tissue
Except the widely use ofβ- HCG test in urine sample for early pregnancy test, the Beta HCG (β- hCG) Qualitative Test are usually used to double confirm the state of pregnancy.
- To suggest ectopic pregnancy
It has been used in the first trimester to help determine if an ectopic pregnancy should be suspected. Usually, in the first eight weeks of pregnancy, HCG will double every other day and continue to increase. According to the HCG level and doubling situation of the corresponding gestational week, the early pregnancy situation can be judged. If HCG does not double every other day in the early pregnancy and the level is relatively low, it indicates that ectopic pregnancy may occur.
- To be used as a tumor marker
As its β subunit is secreted by some cancers including seminoma, choriocarcinoma, teratoma with elements of choriocarcinoma, other germ cell tumors, hydatidiform mole, and islet cell tumor. For this reason, a positive result in males can be a test for testicular cancer. The normal range for men is between 0-5 mIU/mL. Combined with alpha-fetoprotein, β-HCG is an excellent tumor marker for the monitoring of germ cell tumors.
