Product Introduction

PRODUCT INTRODUCTION

Intended use

This Ferritin FIA Quantitative Test is a test to quantitatively detect the amount of Ferritin in human blood samples, including whole blood, serum and plasma, which is tested by LYOFIA® platform from VACURE Biotech.

It's for professional use only.

Summary

Ferritin is an iron-binding protein composed of 24 protein subunits, including two types of subunits, H and L. The proportions of the two types of ferritin subunits vary in different tissues and organs. For example, the heart is rich in ferritin H subunits, while the liver tissue has a higher proportion of ferritin L subunits. The genes encoding ferritin are located on human chromosomes 11q and 19q, respectively. Ferritin is widely present in human tissues and organs, mainly concentrated in the liver, spleen, bone marrow, etc. [1]. Although it has been studied for many years, the biological functions of ferritin have not yet been fully elucidated, and scholars in related fields are still constantly exploring the new clinical value of ferritin.

Why Test Ferritin ?

The result of our Ferritin FIA Quantitative Test helps provide clinical reference for:

  • Diagnosing Iron Deficiency Anemia

Measurement of serum ferritin levels is a highly specific indicator of iron deficiency

  • Assessing for chronic liver disease

Serum ferritin levels are positively correlated with the degree of liver fibrosis and cirrhosis. If the serum ferritin level of patients with cirrhosis is >400 ng/mL, their risk of death from severe complications such as spontaneous peritonitis, hepatic encephalopathy, and hepatorenal syndrome in the early stages of the disease is significantly increased.

  • Role in metabolic syndrome

The results of multiple studies have confirmed that increased serum ferritin levels are closely related to the occurrence of metabolic syndrome: serum ferritin levels are positively correlated with the occurrence of abdominal obesity, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia, and it is a common risk factor for type 2 occurrence in healthy women's independent risk factors for diabetes
