Intended use
The Fluorescent Immunoassay IGF-I POCT kit test measures the amount of IGF-1 (insulin-like growth factor 1) in your blood. IGF-1 is a hormone that manages the effects of growth hormone (GH) in your body. Together, IGF-1 and GH promote normal growth of bones and tissues. GH levels in the blood fluctuate throughout the day depending on your diet and activity levels. But IGF-1 levels remain stable. So, an IGF-1 test is a useful way to find out if your body is making a normal amount of GH.
Summary
Insulin-like growth factor-I is a single-chain polypeptide with three intramolecular disulfide bonds. It consists of 70 amino acid residues and has a molecular weight of approximately 7649 Daltons. Insulin-like growth factor-I in the blood circulation is combined with insulin-like growth factor-binding protein-3 (IGFBP-3) and acid labile subunits, and mainly exists in the form of high-molecular triads. It has structural homology to insulin-like growth factor II (IGF-II) and insulin (INSULIN).
In the human body, IGF-I is almost undetectable in plasma at birth, gradually increases during childhood, peaks at adolescence, and gradually decreases until around 40 years old. Plasma IGF-I levels in women increase during pregnancy.
This Fluorescent Immunoassay IGF-I kit is designed to quantitatively detect the IGF-I content in serum or plasma, which plays an auxiliary role in the assessment of growth disorders. In the diagnosis of growth disorders, IGF-I can be used as a marker of growth hormone secretion. Normal plasma or serum IGF-I concentration can be used as strong evidence to rule out growth hormone deficiency. A low level of IGF-I indicates growth hormone deficiency, and other tests are needed to determine whether there is abnormal growth hormone secretion.
