Intended use
This Pepsinogen I, Pepsinogen II (PGI/PGII) FIA Test is a rapid test to quantitatively detect the amount of PGI and PGII in human blood samples, including serum and plasma. It is tested by LYOFIA® platform from VACURE Biotech.

Summary
The stomach is the only source of PG. Pepsinogen (PG) is the inactive precursor of pepsin. It is divided into PG I and PG II according to its distribution in tissues, biochemical properties, and immunogenicity. Most of the synthesized PG enters the In the gastric cavity, it is activated into pepsin under the action of acidic gastric juice. Only a small amount of PG (about 1%) penetrates the gastric mucosal hairs, so the serum PG concentration can reflect its secretion level.
PGI is secreted by the chief cells of the gastric body and fundus (near abdominal end). When there is inflammation or ulcer erosion, gastric acid secretion increases and PGI rises. When the gastric body atrophies, the oxyntic glands decrease and the stomach becomes low-acid. , PGI decreases.
PG II is secreted throughout the stomach. In addition to secretion by the chief cells and mucus neck cells of the fundic glands, PG II can also be produced by the mucus neck cells of the cardia glands, antral pyloric glands, and the upper duodenum.
