Intended use

The Fluorescent Immunoassay PG I & PG II kit is used to quantitatively determine the content of pepsinogen I (PGI) and pepsinogen II (PGII) in human serum and plasma in vitro.

Summary

Pepsinogen (PG) is the inactive precursor of pepsin. According to biochemical and immune activity characteristics, PG can be divided into two subtypes, PGI and PGII, about 1% of which can enter the blood circulation through gastric mucosal capillaries and exist stably in the blood. PGI is mainly secreted by the principal cells of the gastric body and fundic glands and cervical mucous cells, while PGII is secreted by the fundic glands, antral pyloric glands and proximal duodenal Brunner glands. When the mucous membrane of the gastric fundus and gastric body is atrophied, the number of PGI-secreting chief cells and cervical mucus cells decreases, resulting in a decrease in the level of PGI, while the level of PGII does not change much, and finally leads to a decrease in serum PGI and/or the ratio of PGI to PGII (PGI/PGII) level lowered. Therefore, the concentration level of PGI and the ratio of PG I/II can reflect the number and secretory function of gastric mucosal glands and cells to a certain extent. Treatment monitoring has important clinical implications.
