Intended use

This device is intended to be used for the in vitro quantitative determination of progastrin-releasing peptide (ProGRP) in human serum or plasma. And it is for professional use only, not for self-testing of untrained individuals, nor for near-patient testing.

Summary

Gastrin-releasing peptide (GRP) is a neuropeptide hormone, which is usually produced by small cell lung cancer (SCLC) cells. It is difficult to detect GRP because of its instability. The 31-98 fragment of pro-gastrin-releasing-peptide (proGRP) is the common sequence of three splicing isomers of human proGRP. Some literatures have confirmed that the proGRP fragment in serum or plasma of SCLC patients is a reliable marker.

ProGRP may increase in the early stage of SCLC. ProGRP is helpful in the differential diagnosis of small cell lung cancer and non-small cell lung cancer, and it is the marker to distinguish SCLC from benign lung disease.
