Intended use

The Fluorescent Immunoassay C-peptide POCT Kit test helps evaluate insulin production by the beta cells in the pancreas or helps determine the cause of low blood glucose (hypoglycemia). It is commonly used as a diagnostic test for diabetics to determine whether or not your body is producing enough insulin.

Summary

C-peptide is a single-chain polypeptide composed of 31 amino acids (AA 33-63), with a molecular weight of about 3021 Daltons.C-peptide is a concomitant product of proinsulin cleavage into insulin during insulin biosynthesis. Proinsulin is stored in the secretory granules of the Golgi complex of pancreatic cells and produced by cleavage of preproinsulin.

Proinsulin, the precursor of insulin, will be converted into insulin and C-peptide after enzymatic cleavage. C-peptide does not have the function of insulin, and insulin and C-peptide secreted by pancreatic β-cells are in an equal relationship. That is to say, to secrete several insulin molecules, several C-peptide molecules must be secreted at the same time. Blood C-peptide concentration can indirectly reflect insulin concentration. They are equal and released into the capillary circulation at the same time. Since C-peptide is not destroyed by the liver, its half-life is significantly longer than that of insulin.
