Intended use
The Fluorescence immunoassay NT-proBNP(proBNP ) Kit is an in vitro diagnostic test for the quantitative measurement of N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) in heparinized plasma. In individuals suspected of having CHF, measurements of NT-proBNP are used as an aid in diagnosis and the assessment of severity. The test is further indicated for the risk stratification of patients with acute coronary syndrome and heart failure, resulting from left-ventricular dysfunction.
Summary
B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) and N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-probnp) are biomarkers reflecting cardiac function, and are also the preferred biomarkers for the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of heart failure, disease severity and prognosis evaluation. BNP and NT-proBNP are released in response to changes in pressure within the heart. These changes may be associated with heart failure and other cardiac problems. Levels rise when heart failure develops or worsens, and fall when heart failure stabilizes. In most cases, BNP and NT-proBNP levels are higher in patients with heart failure than in those with normal cardiac function.If your NT-proBNP results suggest that you have congestive heart failure, your physician may order more tests to clarify the extent of your illness and guide treatment decisions. Follow-up testing might include additional NT-proBNP tests as well as other blood tests, imaging tests, or a cardiac stress test.
