BNP is mainly synthesized and secreted by ventricular myocytes, and changes in ventricular load and wall tension are the main conditions to stimulate BNP secretion.
There are two pathways for the clearance of BNP: one is mediated by the C-type receptors of the natriuretic peptide family, and is degraded by lysosomes after endocytosis; the other is degraded by neutral endopeptidase (NEP).
